Previous studies have established that phosphorylation of GC-B is required for activation of GC-B. Conversion of all six chemically determined serine and threonine phosphorylation sites in GC-B to alanines produced a properly folded enzyme that retained GC activity under synthetic detergent activati

2022-09-16
Both plant hormones and some second messengers are involved in Fe-deficiency-related responses in plants (Kobayashi and Nishizawa, 2012). Among these second messengers, nitric oxide (NO) accumulation was induced by Fe deficiencies in tomato and Arabidopsis roots, and it acts as the downstream signal

Conclusion In conclusion, we showed that apoptosis is involved in etoposide-induced pancreatic β-cell cytotoxicity. More importantly, as shown in Fig. 6, the results of this study demonstrated that etoposide induces pancreatic β-cell death via the JNK/ERK activation-mediated GSK-3 downstream-trig

2022-09-16
A similar symbiotic relationship has been reported in the brain, where increased gradients of lactate secreted by astrocytes enables neurons to import and use this nutrient, a process referred to the ‘neuron–astrocyte lactate shuttle’ [16]. Similarly, lactate-based metabolic coupling established by

2022-09-16
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) consists of cannabinoid (CB)1 and CB2 receptors, their endogenous ligands anandamide and 2-arachidonylglycerol, and the synthesizing and degrading enzymes for these ligands. Cannabinoids and the ECS are involved in the regulation of GI motility in physiological and p

The aim of our study was to investigate the polymorphisms of RAGE and glyoxalase I gene and sRAGE serum levels in patients with pathological pregnancy trying to describe the genetic background of pathological pregnancy or to find a new biochemical marker (sRAGE) of these pathological states in pregn

2022-09-16
The β-lactam compounds, including ceftriaxone (CEF), have shown to attenuate drug-seeking in several drugs of abuse including methamphetamine [31], cocaine [32,33], nicotine [34] and morphine [35]. Moreover, in our laboratory, we have shown that CEF can reduce chronic alcohol drinking via upregulati

2022-09-16
Peripheral injury- or disease-induced alterations in synaptic efficacy occur not only at the first synapse made by the primary nociceptive afferents in the spinal dorsal horn but are also operational in several regions processing the sensorimotor as well as emotional-affective components of pain, su

2022-09-16
In general, fish has a limited ability for digestion and metabolism of carbohydrate though carbohydrate is the cheapest dietary energy and carbon source to animals and the best candidate for replacing dietary protein (Enes et al., 2009, Kamalam et al., 2017, Wilson, 1994). Furthermore, the analysis

GR Is a Transcriptional Activator How GR activates some genes while repressing others remains unsettled after decades of study. While significant controversy exists regarding GR-mediated repression, a consensus model for transcriptional activation has emerged: GR activates transcription through s

2022-09-15
As recently reviewed, a picture is emerging where metabolites through GPCR sensors act as important autocrine and paracrine regulators of basic metabolic mechanisms (Husted et al., 2017). The concept of 20-HETE acting through FFAR1 as an autocrine amplifier of GDIS on β p-nitro-Cyclic Pifithrin-α t

2022-09-09
GSTP1-1 catalyzed reduction of Prdx6 enhances its peroxidase activity. Using standard NADPH/GR/GSH-coupled assays we used cell lysates from the transiently transfected GNE-617 to measure the influence of GSTP1 allelic variation on peroxidase activity. Specificity for detection of Prdx6 activity was

Similar to GPR109A, activation of G-protein-coupled receptor 81 (GPR81, also called HCAR1 (hydroxycarboxylic b 35 australia receptor 1)) by lactate suppresses lipolysis (Fig. 1), suggesting GPR81 to be a potential drug target for treating T2DM (Boyd et al., 1974, Cai et al., 2008, Gold et al., 1963,
